I’ve started my blog to record the repair of my “onboro ALFA” (The original blog written on 14th Aug. 2007)

In 1988, just before I got married, I bought the Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV (1969) that I had been longing long time since I was a student.  From that time I have owned my Alfa Romeo for 30 years.

After marriage until I got 2nd daughter, my Alfa Romeo played a very active role as a main family car for us.  Despite the air conditioner was not equipped, we often did long drive of 1,800km on return way to our home town, and also traveled with our 3 family members to lots of places.
However, according to the increase of family members, such as having second and third kids, the places of the activity for Alfa Romeo were gradually decreased.  On occasion that we moved to Germany for my job from 1998 to 2002, my Alfa Romeo hibernated for about 10 years in my friend's warehouse.

After returning from Germany we had our own house in 2004 and built a garage for my Alfa Romeo by self-build one year later.

Then, finally my Alfa Romeo could come back to me!  Because of my lazy personality I didnt touch my Alfa Romeo, however, I have started the repair from this summer gradually.
The condition of my Alfa Romeo is bad, to be honest, because the car has been left untouched for 10 years, and it has broken down here and there…. However, I believe I can do it somehow!  Dreaming of the day of revive, I would repair little by little by myself.  I guess there would be lots of problems, but I would be able to enjoy them as my slow garage life.

If you have a little time and are interested, please visit my blog sometimes.  And if you could give me a comment or advice, it would be very happy for me.

Tip to repair rubber parts

I disassembled the rear axle before.  There had been no progress on it because I started the repair of the fuel tank during my summer holiday. While painting the fuel tank , I repaired the torn rubber boot of the parking brake wire. I guessed it didn ’ t cost high because it was small rubber part.  But I wanted to try the repair method I read on the magazine article before. This was the condition before the repair.  The rubber was torn apart and separated almost. I used this self-adhesive type butyl tape.  I pasted lots of small pieces of the butyl tape on the back side of the rubber boot.  As time goes by , these tapes would melt and stick together.  After this I applied plenty of adhesive “ Super X Black ” on the rubber boot.  On the magazine of MOTO MAINTENANCE , I read the article that the motorcycle seat was repaired with this method.  So , I wanted to try it. After drying 1 day , it became like this....

Fuel tank repair: Day 1 --- new mission started!

I ’ ve started the new mission that the repair of rust fuel tank. The replacement of the rear bearing at the rear axle was still on the way , however , during summer holiday I could secure a longer time , and the hot climate would be good for the chemical reaction of the rust remover and drying the inside of the tank.  Therefore , I wanted to repair the fuel tank in summer holiday. The target of the 1st day was to remove the fuel tank from a car and to put the cleaner “ MARINE CLEAN ” into the tank. At first , as a preparation for the tank removal , I removed the equipment in the trunk room , such as the electric fuel pump , battery , which may interfere with the work. Next I removed the fuel sending unit and extracted the gasoline inside the tank with hand pump.  Considerable amount of rusty objects came out together with the gasoline. After extracting the gasoline I started to remove the fuel tank. Firstly I removed the screws at t...

Brake master cylinder overhaul #4

I disassembled the brake master cylinder again I repaired on the other day because the behavior of the piston seemed to be not smooth enough.  When I removed the piston at the last time , I checked the condition of the rubber and it looked good.  Therefore , I reassembled it without replacing the rubber. However , again I disassembled the brake master cylinder ’ s piston and checked its condition carefully in order to reassure myself. I disassembled and cleaned the piston and the spring. The condition of the original rubber was not bad , but I replaced it once with the rubber part of the repair kit. Again , however , I felt that the quality of the rubber parts of the repair kit ( left one ) seemed to be poor…. I also assembled the piston into the cylinder as a trial , however , the tight contacting feeling was not enough. As my conclusion , I judged the condition of the original rubber parts were good enough and decided ...
