After finishing the restoration of the fuel tank and related parts, I restarted the assembly of the rear axle which had been interrupted since summer holiday. The first work was the assembly of the parking-drum brake. It took little time to set the spring on the brake shoe.
At first I tried the following method, “to make the ring with a tie wrap, then to pull the spring with it”, which was taught from my friend.
It worked well with the smaller spring. But when I tried it with the bigger spring, the tie wrap was broken out. Probably the tie wrap was too narrow.
After trying several methods, I used the vice grip. Grab the spring with the vice grip, pulled it with a full power and succeeded to set the spring.
I also painted the splash shield for the disc brakes.
Next would be the assembly of the rear axle hub bearing that was I struggled to remove.
I hoped the assembly would be easier…
